Sarah Vogel Becomes the First Woman Ever to Lead the Omaha-Based Company in Its 107-Year History; Also Becomes the Fifth Peter Family Member to Take over as President

OMAHA, Nebraska (April 30, 2024)— The Board of Directors of Interstate Printing Company announced today that Sarah Vogel has been chosen as the company’s new president and CEO.  The move marks a historical first, as Vogel will be the first woman in the company’s 107-year history to hold the top leadership spot.

Vogel comes to Interstate Printing after a 16-year career in management at Union Pacific in which she rose through the ranks in a variety of leadership roles, chiefly in operations and logistics.  Starting as a dispatcher, Vogel moved on to increasingly more responsible management positions before finishing her UP career as a Lane Superintendent—in charge of all of UP’s train operations within the Pacific Northwest.  During her time with the Fortune 500 railroad, Vogel led multiple projects that resulted in millions of dollars’ worth of savings to the company.  She was a UP Way Award winner; she became a Certified Continuous Improvement Specialist; and she graduated from the company’s Leadership Development Program.

Vogel arrives at Interstate Printing at a pivotal time—and she will be just the fifth president/CEO in the company’s history.  Founded by German immigrant Valentine J. Peter in 1917, Interstate Printing was started as—and remains today—a family-run business.  Control of the company was passed down to his son, Raymond Peter, and then to another of his sons, Eugene Peter, before William Peter, Valentine’s grandson, took the reins in 2011.  Now, Vogel, who is a great-granddaughter of Valentine Peter, will take over as Bill retires.  Vogel will aim to maximize Interstate Printing’s operational efficiencies as she works to expand its services.  She began her tenure at Interstate Printing earlier this year, coming on board in February as COO.

“I am honored to be chosen as Interstate Printing’s next leader, and I’m grateful for the trust that the board is placing in me” said Vogel.  “Leading this company is not a job, it’s a mission—a mission to carry on the dream that my great-grandfather had when he arrived in America in the early 20th century.   I want to honor that by working alongside our outstanding employees to grow the business and continuously improve the quality of the services that we provide.”

A native of Omaha, Vogel holds a bachelor’s degree from Creighton University as well as a master’s degree.  She lives with her husband and children in Missouri Valley, Iowa.
